About us

Building a Healthier Chicago (BHC) is an emerging nonprofit dedicated to effectively improving the health of the Chicagoland area. Originally co-founded by the American Medical Association, the City of Chicago Department of Public Health, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Region V, Building a Healthier Chicago has successfully developed and expanded its city-wide partnerships, and currently consists of over 150 local and national Stakeholders. Collaboration with well-regarded organizations such as the Institute of Medicine of Chicago, the Chicago Medical Society, and the Midwest Business Group on Health, allows BHC to connect public health, medical, business, and community leaders together to achieve its major goals of:

1. Reducing health risks 2. Improving health systems 3. Eliminating health disparities

BHC's integrative, effective, and sustainable community-wide partnerships and initiatives for health promotion are to serve as a model that can be replicated nationwide. In order to achieve these goals, BHC is partnering with national and local organizations to implement and facilitate several initiatives across the city.
