About Us

City Kids Wilderness Project (CKWP) is a nonprofit program founded on the belief that providing enriching life experiences for low-income inner city children and youth can enhance their lives, the lives of their families, and the greater community. We offer an extraordinary outdoor experience for little or no cost exclusively to eligible children who live in Washington, DC. Our programs take place in Washington, DC and Jackson, Wyoming. Participants leave their familiar urban environment and discover the outdoor wilderness, often for the first time. City Kids engages youth in challenging outdoor adventure activities, mediated by a caring staff, in order to offer campers the opportunity to explore a world of new possibilities. Our goal is to promote increased self-awareness, self-esteem, and confidence in our participants, in order to help them build happy, healthy, and productive lives.
