About us

CASA is an organization of volunteer advocates who stand up for abused and neglected children to help them find safe, permanent homes. Piedmont CASA serves foster children in Barrow, Banks and Jackson Counties. GIVE a child a voice. YOURS.

To become a CASA volunteer, you have to be at least 21. The training is free and can be delivered through a classroom setting or independent study - as well as flex training (a combination of classroom and independent study). After 40 hours of comprehensive training and passing a criminal background check, volunteers are sworn in as officers of the court. Training is provided locally within the county of your residence by Program Coordinators: Brittany MacPherson and Julie Red Bear. Sworn CASA's are matched with a case where they will gather information about the child's background, interview family members, attend court hearings, and advocate for placement and services that are in the child's best interest. This is the role of a CASA.
