About us

Founded in 1981, the organization's mission is to break the cycle of child abuse through prevention, education, advocacy and funding. CAPF was responsible for raising the funds needed to build the Polinsky Children's Centerm in 1994, San Diego's emergency, short-term shelter for children who have been removed from their homes for their own safety. More than 4,000 children stay at the Center each year.

CAPF also played an important role by raising $6 million to aid in the development of San Pasqual Academy, the nation's residential high school for 250 foster children opened in September of 2001.

In addition to supporting the Polinsky Center and San Pasqual Academy, our Foundation continues to provide grants to local organizations offering prevention and treatment programs. Since its formation 20 years ago, CAPF has distributed nearly $25 million for the care of abused kids.

CAPF also has a scholarship fund to directly support former foster youth who are interesting in continuing their education. The fund, now in its second year, raised $43,000 in 2001 and supported 10 students pursue their educational goals.
