Full-Circle Learning Academy

The faculty and board members at the Full-Circle Learning Academy apply the Full-Circle Learning model while uniting sites from around the world as global learning partners. This free public charter school resulted from the requests of the alumni club members' parents, whose children participated in summer school and after-school programs in Los Angeles. After seeing the positive impact the model left on their children over time, they requested a full-day, standards-based school that would serve other children in the neighborhood as fully as it had served their own. They galvanized alumni students and parents to petition for a new school for younger students. As a result, new non-profit organization was established to launch the Full-Circle Learning Academy in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles. This K-8 school began serving grades K-5 in 2007, adding a grade level each year. The campus is located at 4319 West Jefferson, Los Angeles, CA 90016.

Early projects included integrated learning activities to benefit adopted grandparents in the nursing home, students at a special needs school, homeless people at home and abroad, visitors to Gandhi's gravesite, malaria victims, global partners in five countries, and friends and family. The students created a mural at the end of the first year to commemorate those they had served "with head, heart and hands." Noted mural artist Juliana Martinez designed and assisted with the mural making. At a mastery ceremony at the end of the year, each student received a mastery award for the habit-of-heart they had best mastered.
