About Us

The ILI's purpose is to promote the opportunities of persons with disabilities to gain more personal and political power, self-determination, full participation and equality through information, training materials, consultancy and technical assistance.

The Institute works in cooperation with other organizations which support the above aims at the local, national and international level, including self-help groups in developing countries.

We offer resources for persons with extensive disabilities and develop consumer-driven policies for self-determination, self-respect and dignity.

We run a virtual library, interactive services, feasibility studies and projects. We are experts in designing and implementing direct payment schemes for users’ self-determination and quality of life in the areas of personal assistance, mainstream taxi and assistive technology.

We are a not-for-profit private foundation run and controlled by persons with disabilities. Our latest Annual Report is at www.independentliving.org/docs1/ilanrp2003.html
