CUNY Teaching Opportunity Program

Nonprofit or community organization

Last modified: August 23, 2010, 2:26 PM

Description

At this time the Teaching Opportunity Program is not accepting applications.

WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND GET YOUR MASTER'S?

Do you remember the teacher who inspired your love for Math, Science and Spanish?
Are you ready to do that for someone else?

The Teaching Opportunity Program (TOP) at the City University of New York is a unique program, planned in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education to attract talented students and career changers to the teaching profession. No previous teaching experience or education coursework is necessary.

While teaching, TOP scholars take courses toward their master's degree in education at a CUNY college (Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College or Lehman College). They are eligible to earn an AmeriCorps Education Award worth $4,725 at the end of each of their first two years of teaching that they may choose to use toward the cost of their master's degree. In return, TOP Scholars commit to teaching in New York City's public schools for two years following the completion of their master's degree.

Make a difference in New York City's middle and high schools as Mathematics, Science, and Spanish teachers.

Teaching Opportunity Program (TOP) includes:
• Intensive summer pre-service training (tuition waived) with $3,000 living stipend
• In fall, TOP Scholars begin their teaching jobs earning a full-time salary and benefits as a New York City Public School teacher.
• Master's degree in Education with scholarships up to $9,450
• Ongoing support
