Washington Studio School (WSS) is a community of visual artists and students dedicated to the practice of fine arts with conscious awareness of both historical traditions and contemporary experience. Founded in 1985, WSS offers classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, and print making. Beginning in 2007, WSS established itself in a permanent home in the Kalorama community in Washington, DC, located just north of Dupont Circle Metro.
The WSS serves students at all levels of artistic development. Classes, conducted in three 10-week academic terms as well as summer courses, are dedicated to developing students' mastery of varied visual media through serious and focused instruction. In addition to the regular semester-long program, the WSS offers periodic lectures, art shows, critiques, workshops, drawing marathons, and trips. Faculty members, accomplished artists with advanced degrees in Fine Arts, are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and experience.
