About HeartShare Human Services of New York

HeartShare Human Services of New York was founded in 1914 in response to the needs of thousands of children and young adults being released from orphanages and other institutions with no one to turn to and nowhere to go. HeartShare helped those young people face the harsh realities of life on their own in New York City - from finding a home to getting a job - all in an era when neither the law nor existing social services offered them adequate protection.

Today, HeartShare is a comprehensive, human services agency whose programs assist 19,000 children, families, and adults through foster care and adoption, community-based family service centers, youth services, school-based Beacon programs, and services for people affected by HIV/AIDS. For children and adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities, HeartShare provides a continuum of services that include early childhood centers, a school-age program, group homes, supported apartments, adult day services, case management, and family support services.

Approximately 90% of all revenue goes directly to programs. HeartShare is accredited by the Council on creditation for Children and Family Services, which sets the highest national standards for professional performance.

HeartShare continues to be a leader in providing caring, compassionate, and quality services to New York's children, families, and adults, and fosters positive and meaningful differences in their daily lives.
