The primary commitment of the Community Learning Center is to help adults improve their lives and increase their community participation through educational programs and services. The staff of the Community Learning Center works cooperatively and makes all major policy and hiring decisions through a group decision-making process. Students and staff form a community, learning from each other, developing leadership skills, and enriching each other's lives.
Description: The classes and services we offer include English for speakers of other languages, literacy, numeracy, high school diploma programs, use of computers and other technology, family literacy, and counseling. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in tutoring one-on-one or working as classroom aides. We ask for a commitment of at least 6 months. There will be a new volunteer orientation and trainings in October and February.
History: The community learning Center was founded in 1971 and is a division of the City of Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs.
