About Us

Philanthropic Volunteers of Ghana (PHIVOG) is a grassroots, not-for-profit, registered NGO passionately committed to providing an ethical and effective placement service for volunteers in Ghana. We work in partnership with local people to develop voluntary activities that help to better the lives of socially disadvantaged communities & groups.

OPPORTUNITIES We realise that everyone who wants to volunteer has different skills, knowledge, expectations and amounts of time they would like to share with others. To reflect this we offer tailor made voluntary opportunities that vary in nature, scope and duration. For example, gap-year, career-break & summer break placements in areas like education, health, law, ICT, finance, and many more. Whether you are interested in teaching, working with orphaned children, supporting HIV/AIDS health programs, farming, environmentalism, research or accounting, (the list goes on and on)... we can find a way to channel your expertise, interests and motivations so you can make a real difference through volunteering.

ACCOMMODATION We offer good quality accommodation to interns and volunteers through our host family houses. These welcoming lodgings provide excellent facilities such as clean, well furnished rooms with bathroom facilities and meals are available three times daily. Staying with a host family enables interns and volunteers to experience a genuine sense of local culture by living side by side with local people.

ORIENTATION We provide interns and volunteers with a comprehensive orientation at the start of their visit. This includes information about the country, the location and context of their placement/internship and about their host family accommodation.

SAFETY Ghana has a reputation as a peaceful and stable country making it perfect for first time travelers to Africa. Like anywhere else in the world, sensible precautions can help to ensure a trouble free visit, and we provide interns and volunteers with advice on safety and well-being to help enable this.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE FEE? The fee for internships and placements includes host family accommodation and meals, a welcome pack and orientation - including an introduction to 'life in Ghana', a one day tour of the capital city Accra and an introduction to the place of internship/volunteering, airport pick-up and drop-off and 24/7 emergency support.
