Protect Our Defenders is a human rights organization.
Protect Our Defenders was founded to address the ongoing epidemic of rape and sexual assault in the U.S. Military. Our mission is to fix the broken military justice system and reform the way it handles cases of rape, sexual assault and harassment—a system that often re-victimizes assault survivors while failing to hold perpetrators of such crimes accountable. Our efforts are directly informed by our work with victims, survivors, and their families, as well as retired and active duty military members.
Our work includes researching and exposing dysfunction in the military training, adjudication, and Veterans Administration (VA) systems related to rape, sexual assault and harassment; educating the public and policy makers on the issues related to military sexual assault, along with potential solutions; amplifying survivor’s voices within the policy debate; help survivors with appropriate services, including VA claims help, pro-bono legal help, and peer support programs; and supporting policy initiatives that fundamentally reform how the Department of Defense deals with rape, sexual assault and harassment.
