About us

The Little Saigon Foundation of San Diego (LSF) is a grassroots, volunteer-operated organization. LSF is a 501(c)(3) and was incorporated in November 2008 with the purpose of achieving fair representation and fostering social equality for the under-represented Vietnamese communities in San Diego. Despite having been in the United States for over thirty years, Vietnamese Americans in San Diego still face many social, linguistic and institutional barriers that prevent them from accessing valuable and vital resources. While some Vietnamese refugees who came to the U.S. after the Vietnam War did receive significant support from the U.S. government, subsequent waves have been left out and are obscured by a few hyped-up success stories of war refugees.

The majority of Vietnamese organizations in San Diego are focused mainly on the sufferings and trauma as a result of the war while others direct their attention to present-day conditions of Vietnam. This leaves very few organizations that aim at bettering the lives of their own communities in the United States. In response to the present needs of the community, LSF aims to take on the mantle of social activism for Vietnamese Americans in San Diego, rather than just abroad. LSF was created to bring a better future to everyone by affecting systematic changes in immigrant communities through cultural and economic revitalization with an emphasis on social justice and environmental responsibility.
