Since 1986, the Durham Literacy Center (DLC) works to assist adults and teens gain the reading, writing, math, English language, and educational credentials (GED) to earn a living wage.
DLC is a volunteer, community-based organization providing tuition-free, literacy instruction to adults and out-of-school youth throughout Durham County. We use a combination of paid professional teachers and more than one hundred community volunteers to assist our students in reaching their educational goals and, ultimately, attain living wage jobs. Students can come to our learning center for access to computers for tutoring sessions, classes, or informal literacy practice. The Durham Literacy Center (DLC) works to assist Durham County adults achieve personal goals and experience positive life change through increased literacy.
Our primary programs are: Adult Literacy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), & the Teen Center Academy
