Established
Forgotten Harvest Canada was formed in 2011 and fights two problems: hunger and waste.
What we do
Forgotten Harvest Canada collects surplus, prepared and perishable food from a variety of sources such as farmers, manufacturers, wholesale food distributors, grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, dairies and other Health Unit approved sources.
This highly nutritious, donated food—that might otherwise go to waste—is delivered safely, and free of charge to emergency food providers, primarily in Windsor Essex County. The individuals and families served are as diverse as the community’s residents – young and old, from all backgrounds and faiths.
Modeled after Forgotten Harvest in Detroit area, the highly efficient food rescue model brings the much needed resource of refrigerated trucking to be able to safely rescue & deliver fresh, perishable food to supplement shelf-stable food traditionally provided by local food drives.
