About Us

Episcopal Community Development, Inc. (ECD) is leading the charge toward a better tomorrow for residents of Newark’s South Ward and Irvington.

A leading provider of housing and community support services, nearly 17,000 people have benefited from ECD’s work over the past two decades. Still, much work is to be done. An understanding of needs gathered from the community during a neighborhood planning process in 2006 led ECD to augment its previous offerings and it anticipates serving an additional 30,000 residents by 2013.

ECD Homeownership

ECD’s housing counseling arm is a HUD-certified Housing Counseling Agency providing first-time homebuyer certification, pre-purchase counseling, and foreclosure mitigation counseling.

Clinton Hill Community Resource Center (CHCRC)

The CHCRC is ECD’s outreach and community development division and is often a resident’s first point of contact with ECD. Program offerings are broad, ranging from health screenings to women’s empowerment to children’s summer and holiday programs.

ECD Properties

ECD Properties, the housing development branch of ECD, provides quality homes for purchase, lease-purchase, or for rent at affordable prices. ECD Properties is also an active developer of supportive housing.
