America SCORES Denver

America SCORES Denver is an affiliate of America SCORES, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to inspire urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world.

America SCORES Denver currently serves 320 students through after-school programming in ten Denver Public Schools. We create teams through the sport of soccer and bring the teams into classrooms to discover their voices through poetry in the fall season. The teams of poet-athletes create positive changes in their communities with student-led service projects during the spring season.

Our overarching goal is to help our students make positive contributions to society today and throughout their lives. Our program shows students that their actions make a difference; by helping them understand the importance of staying in school; and helping them create healthy attitudes toward eating and exercise. We achieve our mission through the proven benefits of team sports –increased physical activity, self-esteem, team pride, teamwork and good sportsmanship– with an onsite academic service-learning program that builds critical literacy skills. Our organization's objective is to provide students with the tools and the opportunities to be successful in school and in life.
