About Us

ActNow Foundation is a non-profit film and theater organization that provides a platform for filmmakers, playwrights, actors, and artists whose work focuses on the full range of experiences of people of the African Diaspora.

Since its founding in 2005, ActNow has hosted short and feature film screenings, play readings, workshops, and other events throughout New York to showcase the best in independent theater and film. Our largest annual event, New Voices in Black Cinema Festival, is presented each year in partnership with Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), America's oldest performing arts center.

Our team is passionate about promoting new voices in theater and film. It is our goal to build a solid arts foundation that will serve all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, and engage the imaginations of our audiences through new and innovative productions while focusing on the need to keep the stories of the African Diaspora alive and beating in the heart of Brooklyn’s Fort Greene community.
