Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure

About Us

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Susan G. Komen works to end breast cancer in the U.S. and throughout the world through ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 30 countries.

The Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure is one of the largest 5K runs/walks in the world. Raising significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, the Komen Global Race for the Cure celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Up to 75 percent of funds from the Komen Global Race support local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs throughout the National Capital Area, including Washington, D.C., and parts of Virginia and Maryland. The remaining funds support the work of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® around the globe, sharing knowledge and experience and funding education and breast health services in regions where few exist.
