About Us

-A conservation NGO on the ground in southwest Madagascar helping to protect the mangrove forest of Ambondrolava using a truly community based approach-

Honko is a Belgian registered charity working in partnership with coastal communities to help conserve the fragile mangrove ecosystem they live alongside, improve living standards and quality of life and instil a sense of awareness on the importance of a sustainable use practices.

Founded in 2008, the organisation works in one of the most impoverished communes on the globe and in the urban centre of Tuléar, south west Madagascar, home to a population of some 300,000 people.

Honko works directly with local rural people to conserve their threatened mangrove forests and associated wetlands.
