About us

Haight Ashbury Free Clinics (HAFC) and Walden House (WH) merged on July 1, 2011. HAFC, founded in 1967 in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco, has been an innovator in delivering primary health care services to people who can least afford them. WH, founded in 1969 in the same neighborhood, is a national leader in addiction recovery services. Both agencies have always served people who are uninsured, homeless, and socio-economically disenfranchised. Offering integrated whole-person care, the merged organization specializes in providing primary medical care, residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment, mental health services, and reentry programs for men, women and families. We operate two medical clinics in San Francisco, and our substance abuse treatment and mental health programs are located in San Francisco, Los Angeles and in California's central valley.
