About Us

MISSION: The mission of the Salt Lake County volunteer program is to make a positive difference in people's lives through the use of volunteers who deliver services which foster individual, family, and community responsibility. BACKGROUND: During the floods of 1983, hundreds of Salt Lake County residents rallied together and worked side by side to save their community from disaster. This impressive manifestation of voluntary effort became the catalyst for the formation of a more structured, on-going volunteer movement to expand the delivery of government services to people in Salt Lake County. In 1984, the Office of Volunteer Program Services was officially created, and the Salt Lake County volunteer program began. Since its commencement, the volunteer program has grown at a phenomenal rate. Each department and many of the elected offices in Salt Lake County utilize volunteers in a variety of capacities.
