The Right Question Institute

The Right Question Institute (RQI) is dedicated to teaching a simple yet powerful strategy that makes it possible for all people, no matter their educational background or income level, to learn to advocate for themselves, participate in decisions that affect them, and help make democracy work better.

RQI's innovative methods are used across different fields, including education, health care, and family engagement in education. Our Question Formulation Technique is a process which supports students and helps them to generate, improve, and use their own questions. 

Research articles in medical journals support how the Right Question Strategy may help patients take greater ownership of their own health care and partner more effectively with their health care providers. The Right Question Strategy is used to help parents learn to support their children's education, monitor their progress, and advocate for them when necessary.

RQI aims to build citizens' democratic capacity in all fields. Microdemocracy, defined as "individuals using essential democratic skills to participate in decisions made in their ordinary encounters with public institutions," is a central part of RQI's mission.​
