Reach & Rise Mentoring Program
The YMCA of Northwest Florida is
now participating in the Reach & Rise Mentoring Program, designed
for youth ages 6-17 who lack role models and live in communities
challenged by poverty, crime, truancy, and single-parent households,
among other social issues.
Under the leadership of Program
Director Kimi Lirette, the Y is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters
to offer the program to youth in our area.
“Research shows that youth
facing these kin dof challenges are more likely to succeed with the
support of a caring adult,” Kimi said. “The Reach & Rise Mentoring
Program connects these children with adult mentors for 12-18 months. As
part of program implementation, the Y will recruit and train adult
volunteer mentors to provide direct one-to-one mentoring services and
create safe, healthy and meaningful relationships with youth.”
Through the program, volunteer
mentors are matched with a young person for one year to provide
one-on-one services and create safe, healthy and meaningful
relationships. The program is actively recruiting mentors who will share
time and guidance to make a difference in a young person’s life.
Mentors must be 23 years old; complete a fingerprint security screening
and 15 hours of training; have a clean DMV record and valid auto
liability insurance (if driving mentee); and commit to spending 1-3
hours a week with a mentee for at least one year.
