Women's Bureau Fort Wayne

The Women's Bureau needs caring, compassionate people - women and men. No prior experience or training is required - just a desire to help those in crisis. Some of our advocates are themselves survivors of sexual assault but not all are. Our volunteers provide a crucial to the 24-hour services we provide for the Northeast Indiana community.

Volunteering at The Rape Crisis Center allow you to become an active part of our mission to empower the community and to end sexual violence. Our volunteers find their service to be personally rewarding in ways they did not predict, and often become part of our Rape Crisis family. We are open to new ideas and projects - allowing you to customize your volunteering experience while also strengthening your resume with valuable references.

Office Volunteer:These volunteers are crucial for helping The Center run smoothly. They provide assistance to the front counseling office as well as the administrative offices. These duties include making phone calls, answering our phones, copying, folding and shredding confidential documents. They are also vital as they answer our telephone hotline in between other activities.
Outreach/Education Volunteer:Outreach Volunteers assist at our Heath and Volunteer fairs where they present to other community organizations and non-profits in the area. They assist our Education department in our community by presenting the RCC services throughout San Antonio. Develop public speaking and presentation skills by assisting in our outreach efforts!
Special Event Volunteers:these volunteers help with our big events that happen once or twice a year. If you don’t have time to give regularly, these are a great way to stay involved!

Hotline Advocates: these volunteers take shifts on call for our 24 hours crisis hotline.

Data Entry: these volunteers would help input data from pre and post tests taken by high school, college and middle school students throughout the Northeast Indiana communities.

The Women’s Bureau, Inc. received its 501(c)(3) not-for-profit designation in 1976, with a mission to “promote equity and opportunity for all women.” Over its 35 year history, the Bureau has provided services to more than 500,000 persons in northeast Indiana, focusing on the current needs of women and their families.

Currently, the Bureau provides two major program services:

• Transitions is a residential treatment program for drug and alcohol addicted women with young children, with a continuum of services including residential treatment, transitional housing and continuing care. Opened in 1996, the program is the only long-term facility in northeast Indiana for recovering women and children, offering gender sensitive addiction treatment, self sufficiency training, education and job skills, and parenting skills for successful familyreunification.

• The Rape Awareness Program (now called REACT) began in 1981, and is the only multi-service program of its kind in northeast Indiana. The program includes a Rape Crisis Hotline providing services 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Crisis Intervention Services provide emergency and brief intervention and on-going counseling to victims of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence. The program stresses prevention as well as treatment. Our sexual violence prevention program for middle and high school aged students, Assault Education for Teens, educates young women and men about rape, and teaches techniques to avoid, recognize and react to dangerous situations. radKIDS, is a 10 hour comprehensive safety program for grade school students. Upon graduation, every radKID knows 3 things: no-one has the right to hurt me; I don’t have the right to hurt anyone else; if someone hurts me, it’s not my fault and I can tell.

The Women’s Bureau, Inc. is accredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities. This ensures that agency programs have met the highest standards of quality in their respective fields. The agency also complies with all of the Better Business Bureau’s standards for charitable accountability.
