AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth, and Families

AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth & Families is a national non-profit membership organization. We were established in 1994 to give voice to the needs of women, children, youth, and families living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

AIDS Alliance:

• Creates and shares information about programs that work for women, youth, children, and families affected by HIV and AIDS

• Provides a forum for consumers and care providers to build more effective partnerships

• Advocates for public policies that benefit women, youth, children, and families affected by HIV and AIDS while preventing new HIV infections and searching for a real cure.

Our Members: AIDS Alliance members are the health care providers, researchers, administrators, and consumers living with HIV and AIDS -- including HIV-positive youth -- who are the backbone of local HIV/AIDS care and prevention for women, children, youth, and families. Our founding members were the network of Ryan White CARE Act Title IV care providers and consumers. Today, our membership has grown to include HIV prevention providers and others serving women, children, youth, and families living with and at high-risk for HIV and AIDS.

We work through strong collaborative relationships with other national groups, as well as close partnerships with our constituents in local communities across the country, including care providers and consumers in over 650 care, research, and prevention programs for women, youth, children, and families.

Empowering Women, Youth & Families: Empowering women, youth, and families living with HIV/AIDS is the focus of our AIDS Alliance Consumer Education Center. We established the center to respond to the ex-pressed need of women and families for information and support that would help them care for their families and themselves and work for better care and services in their own communities.

With significant grant support from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), AIDS Alliance created and sponsors a remarkable national Consumer Leadership Training Corps. After participating in an extensive program of training and support, consumer trainers demonstrate their leadership in their home communities by training others living with or at risk for HIV and AIDS.

Supporting Care Providers: Through Voices, our annual membership meeting and national conference, our training and technical assistance programs, and our publications and other resources, AIDS Alliance supports the individuals and organizations that care for women, children, youth, and families living with HIV/AIDS across the United States and in Puerto Rico. They have a tough job, and we work to ensure that they have what they need to do it right.

Strong, Effective Advocacy: No family or community can fight AIDS alone. Public policy is essential to the ability of families, care providers, and communities to care for women, children, youth, and families affected by HIV/AIDS. AIDS Alliance provides strong, effective advocacy in Washington to ensure that families affected by HIV/AIDS and their care providers are heard in the public policy debate on AIDS.

A major focus of our advocacy is expanding meaningful access to HIV/AIDS care, support, and prevention for children, youth, women, and families affected by HIV and AIDS, with a particular emphasis on those who are not receiving care. This advocacy supports our program efforts working to get underserved people into care and help them stay in care.
