About Us

Esperanza is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to youth, families, and communities. Esperanza is exploring ways to safely reduce reliance on out-of-home placement for court-involved youth by offering a community-based alternative to incarceration throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Esperanza began delivering direct services in 2002 as part of the City’s efforts to reduce the number of young people placed outside of their homes on delinquency cases in Family Court.

We have since expanded to serving young people who are prosecuted as adults in Supreme/Criminal Court. Our home-based, direct-service program includes up to six months of intensive therapy for youth and their families, as well as case and crisis management. Esperanza’s Education Initiative is an integral part of our direct services and aims to ensure that all of our young people are in appropriate educational settings and receiving the support services they need.
