Chicago URBAN ART RETREAT Center has opened an art retreat in N. Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago just 2 blocks west of the Kedzie stop on the Cermak pink line. For over 25 yrs. URBAN ART RETREAT has been offering temporary housing for traveling women & women who need support to improve their lives. We also have an art gallery for the under-represented, an art studio for adults with & w/o a mental illness, a community art program, a youth program, and an off-site to progam to serve all the people we can't serve on-site.
URBAN ART RETREAT needs YOUR help. UAR is a non-profit organization & one of it's projects is Chicago women's Residence-the 2nd floor furnished apartment. Another of our projects is "Have Studio, Will Travel". We send qualified professionals to your site to provide Art Programming and relaxation sessions for your population. Many diverse people have been served. In the lower level of our building, UAR offers an open art studio for adults w/mental health issues to come together with other adults and make art. On the first floor front there is a small art gallery featuring art by under represented people. We have a large garden for those who want to commune with nature. in addition our communitya rt program helps to beautify and uplift the area we arelocated in. We serve all of Chicago - land. We provide on-site, off-site in area schools, and field trips for youth.
We have diverse opportunities for volunteers. If you want to help once or every week- there is a place for you with the community of URBAN ART RETREAT volunteers. If you want to volunteer on your own or you are part of a group- you are welcome, there is a need for everyone and plenty to do! There are tasks for the experienced and for the inexperienced. No art knowledge is neccessary to volunteer here! We are an all volunteer organization since 1984!
