MicroEmpowerED is an affiliate initiative of EduCARE India. It was set up with an initial focus on healthy living and sustainable livelihoods for marginalised migrant communities and vulnerable poor in rural areas through life skills education, financial literacy, and environment conscious micro-entrepreneurship and micro-finance.
Our purpose is to foster and allow individuals, social groups, and communities to reclaim their own destiny and future; on equitable terms, through empowerment particularly rural poor and disadvantaged marginalised populations.
Our aim is to work to support the empowerment of needy and deprived individuals and communities through holistic projects that address a broad range of health, economic, education, environmental and housing issues. Our approach is much beyond a simple aspect of poverty eradication, but to also enhance people's capacity to live an enriched, engaged and sustainable life that makes them micro-empowered.
We envisage an integrated strategy at for alleviating poverty through promoting consciousness towards responsible slow lifestyles and sustained income generating activities that are friendly to others and the environment.
Some of the work areas of individual volunteer-intern engagement could be: 1. Financial Literacy of the poor and marginalised families / groups / communities 2. Research and documentation on the Micro-finance initiatives in the region 3. Development of innovative environmental and empowerment conscious micro-entrepreneurship and micro-finance ideas 4. Support existing Women's SHG (Self Help Group) initiative or ROSCA (Rotational Savings and Credit Association) 5. Identifying a potential individual / family / community for integrated micro-finance support with a micro-entrepreneurship plan. 6. Support and manage an existing micro-finance beneficiary /group including secondary support activities such as life skills and family education
