Advancement Project is a policy and legal action group that creates new strategies for achieving universal opportunity and a racially just democracy. We partner with grassroots organizations providing them with our legal advocacy and strategic communications expertise.
Advancement Project's work centers on three programs areas: Opportunity to Learn; Power and Democracy; and Strategic Initiatives. Our education work has focused upon stopping the criminalization of students and the overuse of zero tolerance policies, along with combatting policies and practices that are a barrier to college eligibility of students of color. Our Power and Democracy program consists of two project, Voter Protection (eliminating barriers to voting) and Clemency (restoring the voting rights of persons with felony convictions). The Strategic Initiatives Program has worked to protect the rights of immigrants and survivors of Hurricane Katrina.
