About Us

HDRF's mission is to fund cutting-edge, neuroscience research in a critical area of medicine that affects hundreds of millions worldwide. Depression affects over 20 million U.S. adults annually, and is the leading cause of disability in ages 15-44. Yet medications on the market are only 50% effective.

The brain is uniquely difficult to study, but radical advances in technology have made it more possible than ever to peer into its complex circuitry. In 2010, HDRF launched the Depression Task Force (DTF) – an outstanding collaboration of seven leading neuroscientist from different research institutions across the U.S. and Canada. These scientists have developed an unprecedented plan of breakthrough research. They share ongoing results, in real time, at a centralized data bank, the HDRF Data Center.
