Teaching at Monastery

Teaching English to Buddhist Monk Nepal

Lord Buddha is called star in South Asian countries like Nepal, Japan, Taiwan and so on. The country Nepal has been declared as secular country after establishing Federal Democratic Republic Country. However, there is overwhelming Buddhist followers after Hindu. Because of tremendous Buddhist people in Nepal, many monasteries have been established in different part of Nepal. So, within the Kathmandu Valley and outside places have popular monasteries which are historically important. The monasteries have been teaching Buddhist philosophy to the children though it is felt the lack of some English Language proficiency. Therefore, if some volunteers want to teach English language to the student and giving training to Monk in the Monastery is always welcomed. The PVN-Nepal will manage all the activities related to volunteering like Teaching English and other Volunteer work in Gomba (Monastery). Though, predominantly a Hindu country, Buddhism is also practiced by Tibetan people who are in exile in Nepal. Volunteers interested to work in a Buddhist monastery mostly teach English education to monks and immerse themselves in Buddhist culture. This is a perfect project if you are interested in Buddhism and the life of Buddhist monks.

Volunteer Responsibilities in monastery:
Volunteers will primarily work as English instructors either the schools of Tibetan Children's Village or Children home. Depending upon the need, volunteers may be asked to assist in other school extracurricular activities like sports. As a unique fact of this placement, the volunteer will have a rare and unique opportunity to witness and participate in traditional Buddhist rituals.
- Teach English/math's/science and Computer (3-4 hours a day) in the Monastery
- Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative activities
- Taking kids on educational tours and organize seminar/presentation about new places may be of your own country.
- Helping kids to do homework, and help them to increase their extra knowledge besides they get academically.
- Help in other activities or programs designed for little Buddhist monks.
- If you love Buddhism, this is the perfect time to join meditation, rituals, prays, and songs with the Buddhist monks

Additional Information
Skills required:You must have good English (but not of very high standard). If volunteer have any related experience in teaching will be given plus point. Volunteers must observe the rules and regulations of the learning center and be respectful as well as polite to the teachers, club members and local people.
Age range: 16 and over.
Start Dates: Flexible i.e. the minimum time for the program is 2 weeks and the maximum length of stay is 5 months.
