SNV Netherlands development organisation, is a multicultural development agency based in the Netherlands and operating internationally. SNV supports organisations in 28 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, which want to develop and improve their capacities.
SNV's main target is to improve the performance and increase the influence of these organisations. Most of SNV's clients are organisations that work at provincial or district level. These organisations provide services to groups of poor people in remote areas, and look after their interests. SNV's policy concentrates on three working areas: natural resource management, local governance and private sector development.
SNV's mission and core business is defined as:
'We are in the business of providing demand oriented capacity building support to meso-level organisations and local capacity builders with the aim of improving governance and reducing poverty.'
SNV complements the work of other organisations whose main function is to provide funding to organisations in developing countries.
