Comunidad Inti Wara Yassi (CIWY) is a Bolivian organization that works with wildlife and is a leader in increasing public awareness of the environment and its importance. The organization began in 1992 and has been growing ever since. CIWY currently maintains three wildlife rehabilitation centers, where injured, abused or mistreated animals are cared for and given the chance to regain lost skills necessary for liberty. The organization accepts volunteers from across the world to help with rehabilitation and the caring of the animals. In the past 15 years, more than 7,000 international volunteers have offered their help. The organization has been featured in the New York Times and on the BBC and has the support of the Jane Goodall Institute and The Monkey Sanctuary.
