Don Bosco Foundation of Cambodia

DBFC belongs to the Salesian Congregation of Don Bosco (sdb.org). It started in the Khmer refugee camps in Thailand in the 1980s through experiences of technical schools for children and youth thanks to the support of the United Nations, other organizations and a good number of benefactors that answered the needs of the Cambodian families that fled the war in those troublesome years.

Don Bosco was invited in 1990 by the Royal Government to open technical schools in Cambodia. In 1991 DBFC opened the Don Bosco Technical School in Phnom Penh. It was the first project of many others to come in technical education, children sponsorship, schools rebuilding and youth centers.

Between 1991 and 2010, Don Bosco has supported more than 50 thousand Cambodian children and youth in different programs and with the association of other organizations, for their basic education.

The Don Bosco Children Fund (DBCF) was created by DBFC to support children from vulnerable communities to be able to attend schools and have their meals guaranteed. Between 1992 and 2004 there were 4,646 children attended by the DBCF from provinces like Phnom Penh, Kandal, Sihanoukville, Battambang, Kompong Thom, Kompong Cham, Prey Veng, Kompot, Kep, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kompong Speu, Poipet and Kratie. It has also a special chapter for the attention of children with HIV or with HIV parents.

More than 4 thousand youth have received an associate degree in technical areas like electricity, electronic, automotive, printing, webmasters, audiovisual edition and production, journalism, social communication, secretarial, sawing, cooking, hotel management and welding.

These results have been possible thanks to the help of donors, volunteers, associations, other NGOs, officials, past pupils and many other persons that give value to the mission of Don Bosco in the education of the most underpriviliged children and youth of Cambodia.
