The Mali Health Organizing Project is an international 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that seeks to empower urban communities in Mali, West Africa, to improve maternal and child health sustainably. We do so by:
Our major programs include:
o Action for Health: families otherwise unable to access healthcare receive free comprehensive primary care for children in exchange for parent's participation in community service. Community Health Workers connect families to preventive and curative care, while training them as health activists.
o Community Health Radio: Aired twice weekly by local announcers, Mali Health's radio show alternates between targeted health education sessions and open discussions on community specific governance and health topics. Listening groups, composed of local youth, function to translate shows into community actions.
o Action Training: Mali Health's facilitators train neighborhood teams in participatory analysis and action planning while working with them to help organize the community to implement locally designed health projects.
o Sikoro-Sourakabougou Clinic: Constructed by Mali Health in 2009, our public clinic serves as a community-managed medical center to provide basic primary care to hard-to-reach populations.
