BNYC is a regional network of professionals from all industries, sectors and backgrounds, dedicated to cultivating a community of biomimicry practice in the NY Metro region.
Biomimicry is a science that studies nature's best practices, engineering strategies and design techniques, and applies them to solve human problems. We see nature as our mentor, model and measure, rather than a "wharehous of goods" (Janine Benyus).
Nature's 3.8 billion years of wisdom is the greatest "natural resource" we have yet to tap into. This practice has galvanized scientists, architects, designers and engineers into exploring new ways in which nature's successes can inspire new innovations and transform man-made systems, products and services.
We work to support and amplify current nature-inspired endeavors and foster the deep connections needed to spread this discipline and trade as far and wide as possible. As part of the Biomimicry 3.8 International Cohort of Networks, BiomimicryNYC is working with professionals and thought leaders across the globe to develop and scale innovations inspired by nature to create a global community of biomimicry practice.
The next frontier of sustainability does not ask "how can we reduce our impact on the planet?", but advances that question to ask, "how can we create conditions conducive to life?" To live gracefully on this planet that as Janine Benyus says "is ours, but not ours alone." Imagine a world where "Life" is both the source of our everyday inspiration, and the fruit of our collective labor.
All are welcome to join us in working with nature as mentor, model and measure, in pursuit of a regenerative economy.
