Established in 1994, ReCapturing the Vision (RTV) is the force behind a suite of holistic, flexible, culturally-tailored intervention programs proven to help at-risk youth bridge the gap with their more successful counterparts. RTV's three-tiered Program Model impacts youth in every area of their existence, mainly School/Learning Environment, Home and Community. RTV's hard-hitting, culturally-relevant, gender-based programs improve self-esteem and teach life skills like achievement motivation, integrity, responsibility, resistance skills, decision making, and conflict resolution. Each of RTV's five research-based programs incorporate Social Learning Theory and Positive Youth Development approaches. Participatory learning strategies and multicultural content are hallmarks of all of RTV's programs. Lessons delivered in-class are reinforced through the replication of signature RTV events and family strengthening services. RTV's family strengthening efforts culminate in an array of services designed to stabilize the home and reconcile issues that lead to poor decision-making and include case management services and parent workshops. RTV's program model includes a community component aimed at uniting children and families around positive activities. Special events like RTV's annual Teen Empowerment Summit and Family Mentoring Weekend features workshops, performances, and bonding exercises to strengthen the family unit and catapult youth into purpose. RTV's programs have consistently produced these specific outcomes among youth: Improved grade point average, reduced indoor and outdoor suspensions, increased school attendance, improved self-esteem. The Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) has integrated RTV's highly successful teen empowerment and prevention programs into curricula of 25 Improvement Zone elementary, middle, and high schools. RTV reaches beyond its Miami communities to be an advocate for youth across the state and in the United States Congress. The Board of Metropolitan Dade County Commissioners issued a commendation to RTV for its prevention and empowerment programs.
