About Us

Community Legal Services (CLS) was created by the Philadelphia Bar Association in 1966, with the mission to help low-income Philadelphia residents obtain justice by providing them advice and representation in civil legal matters, advocating for their legal rights, and conducting community education about legal issues. During its long history, CLS has been widely recognized as one of the most sophisticated and respected legal services programs in the nation. Substantive areas of law in which CLS works include: consumer law, legal issues around access to public benefits, employment law, housing law, elderly law, utilities law, community economic development, ex-offender/re-entry issues, and family law.
