Northern Virginia-based Communities In Schools, Inc. (CIS) helps students stay in school and make the right choices – by connecting them and their schools with needed community resources. As the nation’s largest dropout prevention organization, we serve nearly 1.2 million K-12 students each year. By bringing resources, services, parents and volunteers into schools, we create a community of caring adults who work hand-in-hand with educators.
In 2009, Charity Navigator, the country’s leading nonprofit watchdog organization, awarded the CIS national office a four-star rating for fiscal management. Only 19 percent of the organizations reviewed by Charity Navigator receive this rating two consecutive years – an indicator of CIS’ management excellence. CIS has attracted attention and support from many prestigious foundations, corporations and individual philanthropists.
