Description

Beyond the Arts, Inc is a Non-profit youth development program that combines the arts, community service, and apprenticeship to help young people develop self-esteem & self-sufficiency in order to lead prosperous and productive lives.

In the midst of reduced funds for the arts in schools, we are committed to providing young people with accessibility to the arts. Thus broadening their experiences and sparking their creativity. BYA provides youth hands on experience in:

  • Drafting
  • Photography/Film
  • Dance
  • Community Service/Leadership
  • Music
  • Painting/Sculpting
  • Apprenticeship/Mentoring

While getting the ethos of professional artists, teachers, and staff our older youth will be provided a solid foundation with hands on experience (apprenticeship), opening the door for further education if desired. Upon completion of their apprenticeship top performers will be granted a scholarship to further their career at an arts related school or field.

We undoubtedly believe the collaboration of arts education, apprenticeship, and community service ensures healthy development of young people, their families, and their surrounding community.

Studies have shown that arts education encourages youth to excel and become avid leaders in their communities. With the experience of BYA young people are destined to:

  • Gain increase in academic performance
  • Maintain positive views of themselves and peers
  • Most likely to stay in school and avoid bad behavior
  • Become community and school leaders
  • Know the technical aesthetics and professional standards needed to advance their careers

"Opening their eyes (youth) to a world of possibility that awaits them, One Work of Art, One Relationship, One LIFETIME at a time"--Michelle Obama
