Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is a nonprofit organization, which serves as a central clearinghouse for donated, non-marketable and surplus food for the purpose of helping to feed people in need in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Operation Brown Bag distributes food to low-income elderly people through a decentralized self-help system. The Family Harvest Program provides food to low-income families with minor dependents through a decentralized self-help system. The Food Assistance Program channels food to low-income persons through churches and community organizations. The Community Nutrition Program provides nutrition, sanitation and consumer information. Food Connection provides information about emergency food resources. The Volunteer Program offers opportunities for direct involvement in all areas of activity.
