About Us

Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) is a comprehensive pro bono program for New Jersey. The program's mission is to improve the lives of economically disadvantaged adults, children and families in New Jersey by empowering them with the tools, advice and pro bono representation to obtain fair and equal treatment within the legal system. The program provides education, counseling and advice, and direct services to at-risk children, adults and families facing critical legal issues. The program relies solely on volunteers recruited to the program to help assist the over 400,000, or one out of three, New Jersey residents living at or below poverty who face a civil legal problem each year. By securing child support for a single mother, wages owed to a terminated employee, or housing for an evicted tenant, all examples of services VLJ provides, VLJ helps to stabilize individuals, families, and ultimately, the community at large.
