Children of Shambala's overall mission is to improve livelihoods and alleviate poverty in Asia. Our main program is called "Orphanage Without Walls" (OWW) OWW is a road out of poverty through education targeting some of the poorest and most vulnurable orphans in Asia today.
OWW is a cooperation between a foster family, a school and COS. Together we enable the foster family to take care of the orphan and to send the orphan to school, enabling the school to give the kids the best possible education and enabling the orphan to pursue the highest possible level of education they can achieve. OWW focuses particularly on orphan girls. By summer 2012, OWW provided vital support to 600 orphans and 2300 foster family members.
Currently, we are operating in western China (Qinghai and Gansu Provinces), but we are expanding the project to northern Thailand in 2013.
