ConservEN (Conserve Natural India) is a North Indian non-governmental program, part of the NGO EduCare India. We are a multi-national group of interns, fellows and staff working together with local communities (Gaddi, Punjabi, Migrant Workers) towards the never-ending goal of sustainable development and natural resource conservation. Our current projects reside near Dharamshala, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, and near Hariana, in the state of Punjab. Within these areas, our offices are located in the towns or villages of: Naddi and Maiti (HP), and Janauri and Dholbaha (Punjab). By the month of June, 2013, we will be opening a new center in Hariana (Punjab).
Our main foci for projects fall under the paradigm of Sustainable Development. Specifically, the program is focusing on:
wildlife conservation (currently focusing on diminishing populations of iguana and tortoise in the Punjab state),
safe waste management practices and improved work conditions for migrant trash pickers,
cultural and rural tourism,
reforestation and bamboo plantations, and
commercial and artistic recycling of plastic/metal/wooden trash and construction waste andthe development of bio-friendly household products for distribution and sale for the benefit of community development.
Using applied research, ConservEN involves and engages with the community in looking for suitable and sustainable solutions to local environmental challenges in all activities undertaken.
