Established in 1985, CNFA® is an international development organization dedicated to stimulating economic growth and improving rural livelihoods in the developing world by empowering the private sector. We specialize in enterprise-based agricultural development initiatives designed to facilitate market access, enhance agribusiness competitiveness, increase productivity, and improve access to inputs and credit. CNFA® has a successful track record of performance in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Over the past 29 years, CNFA® has managed over $474 million in donor-funded agricultural development programs in 42 countries.
We were founded on the principle that empowering people economically gives them the tools and confidence they need to change their lives. We are committed to providing economic opportunities to entrepreneurs in developing countries, where far too many people live in poverty and enterprises often fail simply because they do not have the tools they need to succeed.
A Market-Driven Approach
Focused and flexible, our comprehensive market-driven approach to economic growth begins with our commitment to helping entrepreneurs escape poverty and increase their incomes. By analyzing and building value chains, we are able to strengthen market linkages at all levels of the agricultural economy, allowing farmers and other agricultural enterprises to access and compete in higher-value markets, see more profits and reinvest in their businesses.
Underpinning all of CNFA's work is a belief that leveraging the power of private enterprise—from large multinational corporations to local input supply stores—is the best route to sustainable, market-based development solutions.
