About Us

The Southeast Senior Center for Independent Living (SESCIL) serves senior citizens in eleven towns in southeast Bergen County. It was established under the auspices of the Community Development division in 1978 as a preventive health project with the assistance from the eleven towns it serves. In 1992 SESCIL became an independent, non-profit agency and received its 501C (3) status shortly thereafter. SESCIL is currently housed in the historic Lydecker Homestead at 228 Grand Ave., Englewood. From its inception, SESCIL's goals have included self-sufficiency, independence and preventive health care for persons 55+. A wide range of regular programs have been developed including physical exams, health assessments, low-fee dentistry, audiology, podiatry, health care referrals, self-help groups, help with entitlements matters, exercise classes. The enrichment classes include arts, crafts, music, drama, bridge, book reviews, foreign language conversation and more.
