Child Support Uganda (CSU)

Nonprofit or community organization

Last modified: June 30, 2013, 6:02 AM

Description

Who We Are

Child Support Uganda (CSU) is a non-sectarian, non-denominational Word and Deed Christian Organization (NGO) caring for orphans, vulnerable children, disadvantaged youth, and widows in poor communities in Uganda.

We house, feed, clothe, give education and life skills, medical care, and spiritual teachings and send to school orphans, homeless vulnerable children and disadvantaged youth, both boys and girls. In addition we provide care and support to widows and persons infected with and/or affected by HIV/AIDS, war and famine.

Mission and Purpose

In response to the biblical mandate to care for orphans, widows, and other destitute persons in society (James 1:27), and, in obedience to the Great Commission of Christ (Matt. 28:18-20);

Child Support Uganda (CSU) exists with a mission to improve the lives and prospects of orphans, vulnerable children in Uganda, improving their physical and spiritual well-being, enhancing their educational opportunities, giving each one equal opportunity to realize their God-given full potential.

Our Vision

The overall vision of CSU is encapsulated in the following statement:

CSU works to create an equitable society in which every child is celebrated as a unique and valued creation of God, and is encouraged by all and given every opportunity to realize his or her full potential.

We do this through:

  • involving our communities and the general public and congregations in supporting orphans and vulnerable children;
  • piloting cost-effective and family-friendly approaches to orphan support and care.
  • conducting advocacy programs and educational sensitization campaigns among stakeholders

The devastation cause by HIV/AIDS has left 2 million children orphaned in Uganda. Most of these children live in extreme and absolute poverty, are hungry and malnourished, lack basic shelter, education and healthcare, and are unprotected making leaving them vulnerable to all forms of abuse and exploitation, thus hindering them from reaching their full potential. In response,

We endeavour to meet both physical and spiritual needs of all children and youth under our care, as part of our holistic approach to childcare. We provide shelter, education, food and clothing, health care, life skills and vocational training, in-kind support, child sponsorships and spiritual teaching, to orphans, vulnerable children and disadvantaged youth, both boys and girls.
