Mission
The mission of the University of Oregon Student Veterans Center is to provide all of our student veterans and their families with the highest level of support and dedication in order to enable a successful transition from military life into a chosen field or career through education. The center will serve as the focal point on campus for all veteran support services.
Vision
Once fully staffed and operational, the UO Student Veterans Center will:
• Honor UO Veterans by maintaining a clean and safe space as well as a sense of heritage
• Facilitate connections and offer social support for veterans, veteran's dependents, active duty personnel, Guard and Reservists, and ROTC cadets
• Establish active dialogue with local and national Veterans Affairs (VA) agencies
• Educate veterans on available resources by intermittently hosting members of the campus and community who provide veteran specific services
• Foster a community of UO veterans of the past, present, and future by housing organizations and programs specific to UO student veterans and by providing a space for social functions and community gatherings
• Promote UO Veteran friendly initiatives throughout the campus and community
• Support a national marketing effort aimed at attracting veterans to UO
• Improve the existing new student veteran orientation by expanding advertising and hosting it in the center
• Assist student veterans, service members, and dependents with accessing, understanding, and applying for VA benefits
• Provide advice and guidance regarding readjustment services such as specialized classes, mentorship programs, workshops, or cohort arrangements
• Provide additional academic support for Veterans, Veteran's dependents, active duty personnel, deployed personnel, Guard and Reservists
• Assist veterans with scholarships, specialized resume assistance, and job placement services
• Develop and assess measures of success for the Center and its students
• Assess and improve the effectiveness of veteran based initiatives by tracking the numbers of veterans who utilize new and existing services
• Support development efforts related to the Center
• Educate the internal UO community on veteran issues through sponsored research, workshops, and public relations initiatives
