Medical Africa International abbreviated as "MAI" is registered as a non-government organization (S-5914/9959) devoted to child health development and emancipation. This includes providing of care and assistance to poor families in order they achieve temperate standards of livings. Poor families are people who cannot depend on their own to provide care and assistance; it is this, which distinguishes them from other wealthy families. However, because these families have no access to family aid from their governments, that is why MAI coordinates the international community and other non-governmental organization to make special arrangements to respond to their particular plight.
Our Mission
To improve holistic development and good health in the community focusing on the social, emotional and spiritual needs through supportive systems that shall ensure the next generation.
VISION
To realize communities in a good health environment with quality education and adequate standards of living
Our Key Objective
We carry out activities in the fields of promoting medical care and health; supporting programs for health training; improving holistic development in churches and communities; providing formal education to children and youths.
What we advocate for and how we do it:
Medical Africa International is working together with others to speak up for many unprivileged ones who cannot speak for themselves. All over the world, children and the youth are being abused in so many ways. Many children are living unprivileged and underprivileged lives. And so our team focuses on developing the child in physical, social, emotional, economic and health aspects. Whatever we do, we are committed to the holistic development of the child. We care for the child and aim at restoring his/her dignity in society.
How we do it:
- We empower the child to dream of a better life and sensitize the community to create an environment that makes these dreams possible.
- We work with the community through the local church which puts in place a committee. Then this church committee is supported by a professional team of MAI staff to see that the child is loved, protected and fully developed. As you can see, the church lays the foundation for child protection and advocacy. The church members watch over every child on the program and it is only amazing how the child becomes the central link between the church, family and community.
- Another key strategy in our children development is intellectual or cognitive development. Intellectual development will benefit the child to learn a trade or a profession hence they will grow to economic emancipation. If we developed, we strongly believe these children will compete favorably in the market place wherever the Lord places them.
- All our team members are keen to see that the children God has put in our hands get not only health transformation and basic education but skill that will bring them forth to compete in a professional world.
- MAI believes that the basic determinants of a child's health are in the hands of parents, not doctors. Only if medical professionals see their task as demystifying their medical knowledge and empowering others to use it, will they make their potential contribution to the advance in child health development which is now possible.
- Other Non-governmental organizations of all kinds-women's groups and youth movements, neighborhood associations and people's health committees, voluntary organizations and cooperative movements make a vital contribution to protecting the lives and growth children together with MAI. Such organizations work in partnership with Medical Africa International. If you're interested in working with us in those areas you are welcome.
